Anthropic's valuation is $965 billion, with a potential IPO as early as October, surpassing OpenAI

In the same week, a research report was released, stating that by May 2026, over 80% of the main code repository's merged code was written by Claude. AI is writing its own code and achieving partial closed-loop training in small models
Also in the same week, it publicly called for a pause on cutting-edge AI development. All three lines coexist
This is the deepest endogenous contradiction in the AI industry: the most risk-aware individuals are also the fastest runners. They know this could spiral out of control, but they also know that the person who stops won't be the winner. Business logic and safety statements are being maximized simultaneously by the same company
I don't think this is hypocrisy; I think it's a dilemma
Anthropic people are more aware than anyone of where this path leads, but they also know that OpenAI won't stop, Google won't stop, Meta won't stop, and Chinese teams won't stop. The result of unilateral braking isn't a safer world; it's you being sidelined, while someone less concerned with safety takes the lead
So they chose a third way: running at the forefront while holding the discourse power to define what safety means
This strategy is extremely clever commercially. After a successful IPO, Anthropic holds capital, technology, and moral high ground simultaneously—an almost unbeatable combination
But the market's only question is: with a valuation of $965 billion, is it priced for growth, or is it priced for the assumption that this contradiction will be forever well-managed?
Historically, no company has maintained such a valuation premium when its core product also constitutes the greatest systemic risk
If the fact that over 80% of code is written by Claude continues to deepen, one day triggering regulatory, social, or technical critical points, the safety narrative could become the sharpest boomerang
The louder the initial claims, the more severe the fall when fractures occur
Valuation premium will be the first to come under pressure
