🪙 What is a Coin?

A coin is a native digital asset that operates on its own independent blockchain. It is primarily designed to function like traditional money acting as a store of value and a medium of exchange or to pay for transaction fees (gas) on that network.

Examples: Bitcoin $BTC operates on the Bitcoin blockchain; Ether $ETH ‌ operates on the Ethereum blockchain.

In the crypto world, people often use the words coin and token interchangeably, but they actually serve completely different functions. The easiest way to remember the difference is that a coin operates on its own blockchain, while a token rides on someone else's.
