Many people think that cultivation is about controlling emotions, holding on to what they like, resisting what they dislike; in fact, a deeper level is realizing: we are not the owners of all things, but merely witnesses of the flow of all things. The people, events, and objects we experience in life do not truly belong to us; they are just temporarily passing through our lives, then leaving or staying. When you no longer cling to holding on to something, nor fear losing something, but instead allow everything to come, allow everything to go, allow presence, allow absence, allow occurrence, allow things to be as they are, you will find your inner world begins to become broad and stable. Because your mental energy is no longer spent fighting change, but in witnessing change itself. Thus, gains and losses are just phenomena; flow is the essence; possession is just a process, and loss is also a process. Everything flows through the heart but does not stagnate in the heart. At this point, energy remains unchanged, all matters are just right, and people finally return to a state of flowing with heaven and earth.
