ME News report: On April 18 (UTC+8), U.S. officials said that the U.S. military is preparing, within the next few days, to inspect and seize commercial tankers related to Iran in international waters, expanding the scope of its naval strike operations beyond the Middle East.
As this plan is unveiled, the Iranian military is continuing to strengthen its control of the Strait of Hormuz. On Saturday, it attacked multiple commercial vessels and announced that the waterway is under Iran’s “strict control.” These developments have caught shipping companies off guard, and just a day earlier, Iran’s foreign minister said that the strait was already fully open to commercial ships—a statement that was praised by President Trump.
