Li Lei: The Development of Chinese Art and Culture in the Global Context

Abstract generation in progress
ME News report: On May 30 (UTC+8), at the forum “From Appreciation to Configuration” on May 30, Li Lei, a professor at Shanghai Theatre Academy and director of the Shanghai Haipai Art Museum, delivered a systematic exposition on the evolution path of more than 40 years of contemporary Chinese art, under the title “The Development of Chinese Art and Culture in a Global Context.” He pointed out that in the early days of reform and opening up, Chinese contemporary art followed the Western logic of “shell listing,” with pricing power long held by external markets; while today, as the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation advances, Chinese art is turning to define value through its own cultural subjectivity. He emphasized that the material value of a sheet of paper is negligible, but why is there such a vast difference between Qi Baishi’s paintings and those of amateur enthusiasts? The key lies in cultural consensus and historical accumulation. China has firmly secured its position as the world’s third-largest art market, with cultural trade volume reaching 1.4 trillion yuan, and digital culture’s “New Three” accelerating overseas expansion. Li Lei called on investors: value is the cause, price is the result. Only by deeply studying the intrinsic logic of art and moving with the times can one capture long-term value assets that truly carry Eastern wisdom. (Source: ME News)

Li Lei's viewpoint is equally valid in the context of Web3—consensus is value.
