ME AI News: Meta is planning to test an AI pendant device within the next year as part of its large-scale expansion strategy for AI wearable product lines. The product is seen as an important component of Meta’s push for its “workplace wearable device” initiative, aiming to enhance productivity and the day-to-day office experience through AI assistants.

Reports say that in recent years Meta has been steadily stepping up its AI hardware lineup. Besides Ray-Ban smart glasses, it has also restarted an AI smartwatch project codenamed “Malibu 2,” and is advancing the development of multiple AR/MR glasses products. Internally, Meta is re-adjusting its Reality Labs hardware roadmap to avoid market confusion caused by several devices being launched in close succession.

Previously, Meta also acquired the AI wearable startup Limitless (formerly Rewind), which is known for its pendant-style AI device that can record, transcribe, and summarize conversation content. The market believes that this AI pendant project may be related to integrating Limitless’s technology, suggesting that Meta is accelerating its rollout of an “always-on” personal AI assistant ecosystem. At present, Meta has not publicly responded to the reports.

Industry insiders generally believe that as tech giants such as Meta, Apple, and OpenAI continue to roll out AI glasses, AI pendants, and smart earbuds, AI wearable devices are becoming the next major direction of hardware competition after smartphones.

It seems that Ray-Ban sales are doing okay; whether the pendant can replicate this successful path is questionable.

The pendant shape is more understated than glasses, a blessing for social anxiety, but what if it looks like a work badge when worn?
