Claude is about to add an upper layer called Mythos; if safety alignment isn't fully achieved, the commercial market will be locked down. This wave from Anthropic has incorporated the philosophy of "the greater the ability, the tighter the lock" into their product philosophy. We'll see the true nature in a few weeks.

According to a “Beating Insights” report, Anthropic said in its Claude Opus 4.8 announcement that it plans to roll out a Mythos-tier model with higher intelligence than Opus. As part of Project Glasswing, some institutions have already used Mythos Preview to do network security work. Before a general release, additional protection and alignment are required, and the Mythos-tier model is expected to be provided to all customers within a few weeks. Notably, there is still disagreement about the definition of “opening to all customers,” and the company has reiterated that until its security mechanisms are improved, Mythos-tier models will be banned from public and commercial market availability indefinitely.
