Have you ever stopped to think about who Leila Pereira is? This woman has become a reference when it comes to business and football in Brazil, and her journey is much more interesting than it seems at first glance.
Leila Mejdalani Pereira was born in 1965 in Cabo Frio, Rio. Daughter of a doctor, she grew up in a traditional environment, but from an early age showed extraordinary ambition. At 14, she was already moving to Rio de Janeiro alone, determined to build her own path. She started studying journalism at Estácio de Sá and even interned at TV Manchete during the 1990 World Cup — an experience that greatly expanded her market and communication perspective.
But here comes the plot twist: she switched from journalism to Law. She graduated from Universidade Cândido Mendes and in 1996 moved to São Paulo with plans to become a judge. When that didn’t work out, she began working as a lawyer — and it was precisely this that opened the doors to the business universe that defines her today.
The major turning point was her marriage to José Roberto Lamacchia. Initially working on the legal issues of his group, Leila soon demonstrated strategic skill and business vision that no one expected. She took on increasingly important roles until becoming president of Crefisa in 2008. From then on, she transformed the company into a reference in the personal credit sector, especially taking advantage of economic crises to expand the customer base. This aggressive strategy worked and solidified the brand in the national market.
Now, what really draws attention to who Leila Pereira is is how she turned Palmeiras into a strategic asset. In 2015, Crefisa and FAM became sponsors of the club — a move that completely changed the financial level of the institution. Over R$ 400 million were invested in just a few years, strengthening the squad and infrastructure. Many interpreted it as patronage, but she always made it clear: it’s an investment with measurable return in branding and exposure.
Beyond sponsorship, she became an advisor and later one of the most influential figures in Palmeiras’ management. Her ability to navigate internal political articulation and the support of the fans placed her in a prominent position within the club. Understanding who Leila Pereira is also involves understanding how she uses football as a channel for brand growth — something that goes far beyond simple sponsorship.
For those following the market, her story is a case study. It shows how strategic vision, discipline, and positioning transform careers and entire sectors. The integration between business and sports, the use of crises for expansion, female leadership in positions of power — all of this is part of the trajectory of this executive who became one of the most influential women in Brazil.
