AIMPACT News, May 16 (UTC+8), ChatGPT has launched a personal finance feature that connects to over 12,000 financial institutions via Plaid, granting read-only access to user balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities. This feature is currently available in a preview version for US-based ChatGPT Pro users, using the default GPT-5.5 Thinking model. Supported institutions include Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, American Express, and Capital One. After connection, ChatGPT can provide financial advice based on the user's actual spending rather than generic budgeting suggestions. OpenAI acquired two AI fintech startups, Roi and Hiro, over the past year to build this feature. Currently, over 200 million people ask ChatGPT financial questions monthly, aligning the product with user habits. It is worth noting that this feature only provides read-only access and cannot transfer funds.

12k institutions sound impressive, but domestic users basically have no access, it's another US-only exclusive feature.

Default Thinking model receives positive feedback; major financial matters indeed require more careful consideration. Don't respond instantly with an outrageous suggestion.
