Abstract generation in progress
AIMPACT News, May 16 (UTC+8), NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang told the 2026 computer science graduates at Carnegie Mellon University that technicians such as electricians and plumbers have better prospects than they do. Data supports this view: Randstad analysis shows that demand for technicians is three times that of white-collar jobs, with robotics technicians increasing by 107%, while Stanford research found that early employment in AI-related positions has decreased by 16%. Top electricians earn over $106k annually without student debt. Tech companies are investing $700 billion this year to build data centers, with global investments expected to reach $7 trillion by 2030. These infrastructures rely on human labor, but manufacturing faces a labor shortage, with 102 workers leaving for every 100 new workers entering. The biggest winners in the AI era are technicians capable of building data centers, not prompt engineers. (Source: AiHot)

Is a $100k annual salary without a degree possible? Is it still possible to switch careers?

Old Huang, that hits home, but data centers really do need people to do manual labor.
