A-shares close: Shanghai Composite drops over 1%, defensive sectors outperform against the trend

ME News message: On May 27 (UTC+8), the three major indices saw mixed performance. The Shanghai Composite opened lower, fell below 4,100 points, and retreated, while the STAR 50 Index dropped more than 3% at one point during the trading session. The yellow and white lines diverged clearly, and the performance of small- and mid-cap stocks was weaker.

The total trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets was 3.24 trillion yuan, down by 5.1 billion yuan versus the previous trading day. In terms of market performance, market hotspots were relatively scattered, with nearly 4,500 stocks across the whole market falling.

From the perspective of sectors, defensive sectors strengthened. The big consumption sector was active, with liquor and retail concept stocks surging on unusual moves. Shuijingfang, BuBuGao, and Zhongbai Group hit the daily limit. The short drama concept surged against the trend, with iReader Technology, Huanrui Century, and Baina Qiancheng hitting the daily limit.

The power sector fluctuated and rose. Huadian Energy hit three consecutive daily limits, and Huaneng Power and Liaoning Energy hit the daily limit. The power grid equipment sector fluctuated and moved higher, with Taiyong Changzheng and Liangxin Shares hitting the daily limit.

On the downside, the robotics concept weakened across the board. Julei Intelligent and Zhejiang Rongtai hit the daily limit down, while Shangwei New Materials, Demax Technology, and Wuzhou New Spring all fell sharply. The semiconductor equipment sector continued to adjust, with Tuojing Technology down more than 10%.

By the close, the Shanghai Composite fell 1.25%, the Shenzhen Component Index fell 0.88%, and the ChiNext Index rose 0.07% (Source: PANews).
