ME News report: May 27 (UTC+8). FTSE Russell has approved a rule change to accelerate the inclusion of newly listed large-cap stocks into its main indices—right around the time SpaceX is expected to conduct its IPO a few weeks later. Under the new policy, IPOs with an investable market capitalization exceeding the FTSE Russell US Top 500 index threshold will be eligible for fast-track inclusion after the end of the fifth trading day following their listing. Previously, companies that met the criteria were only evaluated during quarterly reviews. Arne Noack, head of FTSE Russell’s US equities and multi-asset indices, said in a statement, “By introducing a fast-track inclusion mechanism for large-scale IPOs, the index can reflect major market developments more promptly.” FTSE Russell is emulating a similar move earlier this year by Nasdaq, which shortened the waiting period for index inclusion from at least three months to 15 days to accommodate potential mega IPOs. Noark's words sound familiar; every reform claims to "reflect the market in a timely manner."

Quarterly reviews are now real-time, and index compilation is increasingly resembling high-frequency trading.

In the past, I could gradually build my position over three months; now, I have to fire all my bullets within five days.
