Mars Finance News, on May 26, the Spanish Department of Consumer Affairs has initiated disciplinary proceedings against prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi, and has demanded that internet service providers block user access to these platforms. According to a notice published in the Official State Gazette of Spain, these companies are offering products related to future uncertain events without obtaining the licenses required by Spanish law. Local media reports state that regulators believe their operations may be in violation of Spanish regulations. The Spanish government official stated that during the case review, the relevant preventive blocking measures will remain in effect, and the entire process is expected to take three to four months. The regulatory documents also pointed out that because regulators could not contact these companies through known overseas addresses, they ultimately chose to issue an official announcement and implement blocking measures directly.

What decentralized protocols fear the most is this: if the frontend gets blocked, users are directly confused.

Polymarket has such a huge user base, and Spain’s share is probably pretty significant too—honestly, that’s painful.

Kalshi just obtained a license in the United States, but then ran into trouble in Europe, disrupting their expansion pace.

If you can't contact the overseas company, just announce it + block them. Learned this process.

Predicting the market is inherently a gray area; going in without a license and getting hammered is not unfair.
