I've been researching how to invest in oil for a while, and honestly there's a lot of noise on the internet. So I decided to try out several platforms, and this is what I found.
First, oil isn't just a speculative bet. The volatility is brutal (a conflict in the Middle East and it jumps 10% in a day), but that's also what makes it interesting. Plus, it's real hedging against inflation and an asset that big players never remove from their portfolios.
To invest in oil, you have options: shares of oil companies like ExxonMobil, ETFs, futures, or CFDs. For beginners, CFDs and ETFs are the most accessible. There are two main types: Brent (global benchmark, very sensitive to geopolitics) and WTI (U.S. market, reacts strongly to American economic data).
Now, about the platforms. Mitrade surprised me: tight spreads, zero commissions, you can start with $20, it's regulated by ASIC and CIMA. If you want something simple to trade oil without hassle, it's solid. eToro is more social, offers copy trading, but requires a higher initial capital. Interactive Brokers is for professionals with large volumes. Plus500 if you need options on CFDs. Admiral Markets if you're a MetaTrader fan.
The truth is, the best way to invest in oil depends on your profile. If you're starting out, Mitrade or eToro. If you have experience, Interactive Brokers or Admiral Markets. I’d say don’t put all your money in at once, try with small amounts first. Oil moves fast and can be very profitable or very risky if you don’t know what you’re doing. Is anyone else involved in this?
