ME News Report, April 18 (UTC+8), UN Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement through a spokesperson, welcoming Iran's announcement to fully open the Strait of Hormuz for commercial ships during the ceasefire, and calling on all parties to fully restore and respect the international navigation rights and freedoms of the strait. The statement said that Guterres welcomed Iran's announcement on the same day to fully open the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial ships for the remaining duration of the ceasefire, considering this move "a step in the right direction." Guterres reiterated that the United Nations will continue to fully support diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the current Middle East conflict. He expressed hope that, based on the ceasefire arrangements, this measure will help build mutual trust among all parties and promote progress in the dialogue process facilitated by Pakistan.
