Recently, social mining has become popular again, with groups daily asking "Checked in?" or "Added a few roles," basically exchanging time for points and badges. Of course, badges look pretty, but I'm a bit worried that someday I'll empty my life just for that little identity marker: doing tasks on the subway, replying to posts while eating, only to find out I just gained an "Early Contributor" badge, with neither my wallet nor my brain growing any flesh...

Coincidentally, in the past couple of days, that mainstream public chain has been upgraded/maintained, and everyone has started guessing whether the ecosystem will migrate. I see some people anxiously worrying about migration while still obsessing over the leaderboard, like they're fighting for the top spot at the dinner table before the event even starts. Anyway, my current approach is: automate what can be automated, skip the mandatory side tasks, and save some energy for things that truly influence governance, or... for myself to clock out.
