the healthy way to quit doomscrolling.

consciousness and replacement
it takes 2-4 weeks to actually notice the effect
first of all, remove the apps from their current place on your screen
most importantly, notice how often you still tap the place where they used to be
that’s your muscle memory
congratulations, now you’re conscious about it
next, find another source of information to consume
but most importantly, make it an intentional choice
if you scroll in bed, grab a book
or watch a tv series after all
not everything has to be optimized into monk mode
I now carry an iPad mini when I go outside
plane mode, no internet
and I read on public transport
it became a habit
extra tips:
- keep your phone on DND
- allocate time for intentional news consumption
if you post online, it’s harder
but you can also allocate specific time when you post and reply
you don’t have to quit cold turkey
that rarely works
what really matters is filling that void with something else
otherwise you’ll just return to the old pattern
for most people, doomscrolling is a coping mechanism
and we cope with boredom
but remember...
you are supposed to be bored
that’s how the best ideas are born
from silence, not from drowning in noise
