one of the biggest traps is thinking that at some point you will finally start living
once you have enough money, once you figure out what you want, once you fix yourself, once your life becomes more stable
and until then you are kind of preparing for life
i do this a lot
i spend so much time thinking about who i want to become, what i should build, what direction makes sense, what habits i need, what kind of life i actually want
and all of that feels useful because technically you are working on yourself
but at some point you realize you can spend years preparing the person who is supposed to

when you are a jack of many trades, you eventually run into a weird problem with self identification
I am a trader, builder, artist...
I am a forever scholar
so who am I exactly?
sometimes I’m jealous of people who can commit their whole life to one thing
it just seems simpler
you know what you are, what you do and what you are getting better at
your whole life compounds in one direction
mine doesn’t really work like that
I keep moving between things because I genuinely care about all of them
and for a long time I thought I needed to choose one identity that explains everything
I don’t think I

and this applies to life too.

5 principles to live by
1. trust yourself to act,
not to predict everything.
2. let desire show you a direction
let a clear mind make a decision
once decided, move
don’t keep rethinking unless reality changes
3. care about how you look, how you’re perceived, and what others think,
but don’t let them author you.
4. build taste, competence, restraint,
and your own standards.
5. you don’t need to be fully understood.

you don’t want to spend your entire life frantically becoming competent
you want competence to become so deeply embodied that eventually you can relax because you know you can deal with things when they happen

do I like this or do I like what liking this says about me?
I think this is one of the central questions of modern identity

there’s one thing crypto trading taught me that I’ll probably carry forever
the ability to step outside of the hype and ask what is actually real
I remember in 2021 people were refusing nearly a million dollars for their BAYC NFTs
and they were proud of it
some even bought more because they genuinely thought the financial world was changing and they would become part of some new elite
you can buy one for around 15k now...
anyway, when everyone around you believes the same thing, the whole story starts feeling real
and once you accept the story, almost any decision inside it can make sense
that
