DeepSeek launches its first external funding round, valuation may exceed $10 billion

ME News message: On April 17 (UTC+8), Chinese AI company DeepSeek is planning its first external funding round. The target valuation is expected to exceed $10 billion, marking its shift from its previously relatively “self-developed, self-driven” model to bringing in external capital. The report says this round of financing will be DeepSeek’s first large-scale fundraising from outside since its founding. Previously, the company mainly relied on resources from its parent company system to develop; its valuation was about $3.4 billion in 2025. If the funding is completed this time, the valuation will jump by several times. In recent years, DeepSeek has risen rapidly by leveraging low-cost, high-performance open-source large models. Its model training costs are significantly lower than mainstream industry levels, and its performance benchmarks against leading U.S. models have disrupted the global AI competitive landscape.
