Do you know what English abbreviation ICP stands for? It represents the Internet Computer Protocol — a quite unique blockchain protocol developed by DFINITY Foundation. I just delved deeply into this project and found it has quite a few notable aspects.

Internet Computer (ICP) is designed with an ambitious goal — to replace traditional centralized systems with a decentralized computing environment. Simply put, it allows developers to build and deploy web applications directly on the blockchain without relying on intermediary servers or centralized databases.

The interesting part is its operational structure. Internet Computer connects independent data centers worldwide into a decentralized computing ecosystem. The nodes are organized into subnets — groups capable of processing data and running applications like smaller blockchains. Importantly, it has an automated governance system called Network Nervous System (NNS), which manages network configuration, approves new data centers, and can even upgrade the entire network without downtime.

Many people are concerned about its speed. Internet Computer processes transactions in 3-5 seconds, significantly faster than Ethereum or Bitcoin. Additionally, this platform has virtually unlimited scalability, capable of storing and processing millions of applications without affecting performance. Transaction fees are also quite low thanks to its unique fee system.

Regarding tokenomics, the ICP token currently has a total supply of 551,832,001 tokens with a circulating supply of 553,013,364 tokens (as of May 2026). This token has three main roles: participating in network governance via NNS, paying fees for deploying canisters, and earning rewards from network operation.

The strength of this project also comes from its development team. Dominic Williams, the founder of DFINITY, is a renowned blockchain researcher with over 15 years of experience. The DFINITY team currently has more than 188 experts from technology, blockchain, and security fields working at research centers around the world.

Financially, Internet Computer has raised over $195 million from funding rounds. In 2017, the project raised $61 million in a Series A round led by major investment funds. In 2018, an additional $102 million was raised in a Series B round. After launching the mainnet in 2021, ICP became one of the blockchain projects with the highest market capitalization.

Since founding the DFINITY Foundation in 2016, the project has undergone significant development milestones. The mainnet launched in 2021 along with the ICP token on major exchanges. From 2022 onward, the ecosystem has continuously expanded with hundreds of decentralized applications.

The development roadmap for 2024-2025 focuses on expanding DeFi, NFT, and Web3 applications, improving the NNS system, and enhancing interoperability with Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other blockchains. Currently, hundreds of projects are active on ICP, ranging from decentralized finance applications to gaming platforms.

I see ICP has considerable potential thanks to its strong scalability and practical applications. However, like all blockchain projects, it also carries high volatility. If you're interested, you can buy ICP on major exchanges, but be sure to research thoroughly before investing. This project truly promises a new approach to the public internet, and it’s definitely worth following.
