Recently, I’ve been following an interesting Web3 infrastructure project. Сомния is a next-generation blockchain platform, with the main goal of solving the problem that current Web3 applications can’t be used for large-scale commercialization.
I noticed that the project has pinpointed its core pain points very accurately. Today, most blockchain platforms face the same dilemma: either their performance is insufficient, or their fees are too high—making it impossible to support truly large-scale applications. For example, Ethereum can only process an average of 9 transactions per second, and Polygon is only around 47 transactions per second, which is completely inadequate for the demand from Web2 applications.
So how does Сomния solve this problem? They’ve built an L1 public chain that can achieve a throughput of 400,000 transactions per second, with transaction confirmation times of less than 1 second. What’s more, it is EVM-compatible, meaning developers can migrate existing projects seamlessly. Low fees combined with high speed is indeed a powerful advantage for DeFi applications.
Even more interesting is that Сомния isn’t just building financial applications. Their ambitions are even bigger—they want to support data-intensive applications such as gaming, the metaverse, and social networks. In these areas, on-chain performance requirements are far higher than those of DeFi, and most existing platforms simply can’t handle it.
From a technical perspective, they emphasize truly decentralized infrastructure. It’s not just about high performance, but about delivering a Web2-level user experience while maintaining censorship resistance. If they can get this balance right, it can definitely open up many new application scenarios.
I think infrastructure projects like this are worth paying attention to, especially at a time when both DeFi and innovation at the application layer need stronger underlying support. If their performance and costs really reach the level they claim, there’s a lot of room to imagine an explosion in ecosystem applications afterward. If you’re interested, you can follow the latest developments of related assets on Gate. Overall, the long-term potential of infrastructure projects like this is still quite good.
