Recently, the crypto community has been buzzing about a new topic—so-called “Future Person from 2058,” Ling Guofenling. This Japanese influencer has been hailed by fans as a “flawlessly accurate prophet” because she previously predicted things like the Tokyo Olympics gold medal count, the Nikkei index’s crash, and Shinzo Abe stepping down. However, her latest cryptocurrency investment advice leaves people somewhat confused.
According to Ling Guofenling, she bought roughly 1,400 Ether using her father’s account in late 2019, then buried them in the backyard of her home, planning to dig them up in 2058. She chose Ether instead of Bitcoin because she is bullish on the application prospects of the Ethereum ecosystem. But here’s an interesting twist—she said that while Bitcoin will rise to an astronomical price (reportedly 780 million yen, or about $4.94 million in USD), in the future it will be “only sell, not buy.” These comments have led many people to wonder whether there’s still an opportunity to pick up bargains right now.
So, is Ling Guofenling’s prophecy really that remarkable? Looking closely at her past “success cases,” some of the predictions do line up, but others have pointed out that these forecasts may simply be reasonable inferences drawn from economic trends and political rumors at the time—plus a bit of luck and hindsight adjustments. Her claims are also full of ambiguity, relying on many equivocal hints to attract attention.
From a market perspective, Ling Guofenling’s remarks have indeed stoked discussion around cryptocurrencies. At the moment, the BTC price is near $77.68K, while ETH is at $2.14K. Both have been swinging a lot under the stimulus of factors such as the U.S. election and ETF inflows. Some experts have warned that if you want to follow her “future value in the 2030s” idea, you should first assess your own risk tolerance. As for the claim that “Bitcoin can only be sold,” some people are also worried it could further hype the market or trigger panic selling.
In plain terms, nobody can say for sure whether Ling Guofenling’s identity and predictions are real. For the crypto market, it might just be an interesting media spectacle; for believers, it may be guidance from a “prophet.” But whether you believe it or not, investing ultimately comes down to your own judgment and risk management. Are there real time travelers? Maybe there are, maybe there aren’t—the future market will tell.
