I noticed an interesting trend — there is currently a real boom in gaming projects within the crypto space. It used to seem that blockchain was only about finance and exchanges, but it turns out that the gaming sector is experiencing a true revolution thanks to decentralized technologies.
In general, if you understand, blockchain games operate completely differently than regular video games. The essence is that players truly own their in-game assets — these can be NFT characters, items, or land. And the main thing is — you can earn cryptocurrency right while playing. Each such game has its own token, which you receive for completing tasks and achievements.
I delved into this topic and identified several projects that really stand out. Here they are.
Axie Infinity — probably the most well-known earning game in this space. There, you assemble a team of creatures similar to Pokémon and battle other players. Each creature is an NFT with its own unique characteristics. The system is dual-token — AXS for serious players in ranked battles, SLP for more casual gameplay. The project runs on Ethereum, ensuring reliability and transparency.
The decentralized world of Decentraland impressed me from a completely different angle. It’s a full-fledged virtual universe with VR and AR elements, where you can not only play but also trade digital real estate and create events. The three main tokens there are — MANA as the internal currency, and LAND, ESTATE as NFT land plots. A quite ambitious project.
The Sandbox is similar to Minecraft but with blockchain. Users build their worlds, create games, and can monetize content through the SAND token. It’s no longer just a game, but an entire ecosystem for creativity.
Gods Unchained looks like a classic collectible card game but with full control over assets. You can play without a wallet, but if you connect a crypto wallet, you gain access to trading cards and full rewards in GODS tokens. Interestingly, this works even for blockchain beginners.
There’s also FatBoy — a modern interpretation of Tamagotchi with Play-to-Earn mechanics. You take care of a character, complete tasks, and earn FATTY tokens. Simple but effective concept.
What truly attracts me to these projects is that blockchain games offer real value. It’s not just entertainment; it’s an opportunity to own digital assets and potentially earn income. Of course, like any investments, this requires understanding the risks.
If you sometimes play video games, it’s worth paying attention to this direction. The industry is developing very quickly, and it’s better to understand how it works yourself. GameFi is no longer the future — it’s the present.
