I just learned about a pretty interesting Layer 2 project called Scroll. Many people ask what Scroll is, so today I want to share some basic information about it.
Scroll is essentially a Layer 2 solution that uses zk-rollup technology to process transactions off the main Ethereum chain. Instead of all transactions being processed directly on Ethereum, Scroll handles them on its own private network and then submits proof to Ethereum for approval. This approach significantly reduces costs and greatly speeds up transaction times.
What makes Scroll special is that it uses zkEVM, a relatively new technology designed to address the issues present in other zk-rollups. Thanks to zkEVM, projects on Ethereum or other EVM-compatible blockchains can easily scale and operate on Scroll without needing to learn a new programming language. This is quite important because it allows Solidity developers to deploy their projects easily. As a result, you get extremely fast transactions, low costs, and maintained security inherited from Ethereum.
On the investment side, Scroll has raised about $80 million. The largest funding round a few years ago was valued at $50 million, with participation from major funds like Polychain Capital, Sequoia China, and Bain Capital Crypto. This indicates that the project has gained trust from top-tier investors.
Currently, Scroll is in the Alpha Testnet phase, which is phase 3 in their 6-phase roadmap. If you want to join the testnet to have a chance to receive an airdrop, you can do the following: add the Alpha Testnet configuration to your wallet, claim test ETH from Goerli Faucet, transfer ETH from Goerli to Scroll Alpha Testnet, perform a few transactions to accumulate activity, check the status on Block Explorers, and then transfer back if desired. Also, follow the project's social channels to stay updated with the latest news.
Information about Scroll's tokenomics has not been announced yet, so I will continue to monitor and update when official details are available. In summary, Scroll is a promising Layer 2 solution with advanced zkEVM technology.
