I have been following for years how Elon Musk moves the crypto market with his tweets. The guy literally has the nickname Dogefather, so it's obvious that cryptocurrencies are an important part of his life. But the question we all ask is: exactly which cryptocurrencies does he own and why?
Let's start with the obvious. Bitcoin is the king, and Musk knows it. When Tesla announced that $1.5 billion investment in 2021, it was clear he saw BTC as something serious. Although Tesla later sold most of its holdings, Musk confirmed that he personally still owns Bitcoin. He sees it as digital gold, a real store of value. Today it’s around $77.79K, so the long-term vision seems to be paying dividends.
Then there’s Ethereum. During The ₿ Word in 2021, he revealed that he also has ETH in his portfolio. And it makes sense: Ethereum is the infrastructure behind DeFi, NFTs, and all those innovative applications. Musk understands that it’s not just a cryptocurrency, it’s an ecosystem. Currently, it’s at $2.14K.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Dogecoin is literally his favorite. He doesn’t hide it for a second. He has called it the people's cryptocurrency, promoted its use at Tesla and SpaceX, and his tweets have moved the DOGE price many times. The reason is simple: he loves the playful and memetic aspect, but also believes in its real potential as a means of payment due to low fees and its active community. Today it’s at $0.11 with a +1.48% in 24h.
Now, there’s a lot of speculation about other coins. Shiba Inu and Floki Inu have gained attention precisely because of Musk’s tweets about dogs, although he denies owning SHIB. The interesting part is how his influence moves these markets without necessarily having direct participation.
What’s clear is that Elon Musk and cryptocurrencies go hand in hand. His portfolio reflects his vision: Bitcoin as a store of value, Ethereum as infrastructure, and Dogecoin as the asset with disruptive potential. If you want to closely follow how these assets evolve, Gate has good tools to monitor the movement of these coins.
