Remember that insane Bitcoin heist from 2024? The one where Malone Lam and his crew pulled off one of the biggest crypto thefts ever? Still can't believe how it went down.

So basically, these young guys - Malone was only 20 at the time - targeted someone holding serious Bitcoin stash connected to Genesis. The social engineering was actually genius in a twisted way. One guy called pretending to be Google support, convinced the victim his accounts were compromised. Got into Gmail and iCloud. Then another posed as Gemini staff, made him think his exchange account was under attack. Panicked victim reset his 2FA - that's literally all they needed. One simple step and boom, they had full access to his Gemini holdings.

But they weren't done. They pushed him to install remote desktop software, exposed everything. In August 2024, 4,064 Bitcoin just vanished in a single transaction. Back then worth over $230 million.

What happened next was wild. Malone Lam and the crew immediately started moving the funds. Split it across 15 different exchanges, converted to LTC, ETH, XMR to cover their tracks. But then Malone lost his mind with the money. Half-million dollar club nights, $10.5 million Miami mansion, Birkin bags handed to random women, even bought a pink Lamborghini to try winning back his ex (didn't work lol).

By September, federal agents were raiding the mansion. Malone Lam got arrested along with the entire crew. They're all facing decades in prison now.

Here's the crazy part though - out of $230 million stolen, law enforcement has only recovered about $9 million. The rest is still scattered across wallets and exchanges somewhere. At today's Bitcoin price around $77K, that original haul is now worth even more - roughly $468 million. Makes you wonder if they'll ever track down the rest of it.
