There is a lot of discussion happening about which cryptocurrencies are truly worth it in 2026. I decided to make a summary of the 8 that make the most sense for those wanting to understand the crypto market now.
Bitcoin continues to be the digital gold standard. Launched in 2009, it has a limited supply of 21 million and has never been hacked. Of course, transactions are slow (7 TPS) and fees can get heavy, but institutional adoption keeps growing. Current price is around $77.3k with a market cap of $1.5 trillion.
Ethereum is another story - much more than just currency. It enables smart contracts, DApps, NFTs. The 2022 merge cut energy consumption by 99.95%. The problem? Gas fees are still high and scalability on Layer 1 is limited (15-30 TPS). But Layer-2 solutions are evolving rapidly. Current price: $2.13k, market cap of $257 billion.
Solana is the fast blockchain indeed. 65,000 transactions per second, nearly zero fees (less than a cent). Uses Proof-of-History + PoS. Had stability issues in the past, but is more solid now. Institutional interest is growing with RWA (real-world assets). Price: $86.36, market cap: $49.9 billion.
Cardano was founded by Charles Hoskinson, co-creator of Ethereum. Development based on academic research, much more energy-efficient than Bitcoin. The downside is that development is slower and the ecosystem is still smaller. But partnerships with African governments are advancing. Price: $0.25, market cap: $9.25 billion.
Dogecoin started as a joke in 2013 but became serious. Huge community, support from Elon Musk, low fees. The problem is infinite inflation (5 billion new coins per year) and crazy volatility. It’s being integrated into payment systems, adding utility. Price: $0.10, market cap: $16 billion.
Pepe is another meme coin, this time on Ethereum, launched in 2023. It was a fair launch, no pre-sale. Has high liquidity and token burns (deflationary), but zero real utility beyond that. Volatility is insane. Price: practically zero, market cap: $1.57 billion.
Meme is a meme culture token linked to NFTs, with a very limited supply (28,000 tokens). Extremely scarce but low liquidity. Receiving updates (MEME v2 with NFT creation tools). Price: very low, market cap: $32.88 million.
Sui is a Layer-1 blockchain created by ex-Meta staff (Diem project). Uses Move language and can process 120,000 transactions per second. Cutting-edge technology with a strong team, but stability has not yet been proven. Price: $1.07, market cap: $4.3 billion.
The scene in 2026 is changing fast. Each of these cryptocurrencies for investment has its own risk and opportunity. Bitcoin and Ethereum remain the heavyweights. Alternative Layer-1s (Solana, Cardano, Sui) are competing for space. And memes? Well, that’s pure speculation.
If you want to get into this, the advice is always the same: research the fundamentals, follow the trends, understand what’s happening. There’s no silver bullet. Each person has their own risk appetite.
