I'm seeing a lot of people still confused about which cryptocurrencies are worth following in 2025. I'll share my analysis of the 8 coins that deserve attention — from the most established to tokens gaining traction.

Bitcoin remains that asset you can't ignore. Launched in 2009, it has over 15 years of history. The interesting thing is that it has a fixed supply (21 million) and undergoes halving every 4 years, making it anti-inflationary. It has never been hacked, and now it’s experiencing massive institutional adoption (ETFs, corporate treasuries). Of course, it has its issues — slow transactions (7 TPS), volatile fees, and high energy consumption. But with ETF approvals and favorable monetary policies, BTC continues to serve as an inflation hedge. The current price is around $77K, with a market cap of $1.5 trillion.

Ethereum is quite different. Launched in 2015 by Vitalik Buterin, it’s much more than just a currency. It enables smart contracts, DApps, NFTs. The Merge in 2022 reduced energy consumption by 99.95%, which was very significant. It has the largest ecosystem (over 3,000 projects), and Layer-2 solutions like Arbitrum and Polygon are solving scalability issues. Gas fees are still high, and there are limitations on L1 (15-30 TPS), but the Dencun upgrade has improved things considerably. ETH is at $2.1K with a market cap of $257 billion.

Solana is that blockchain that impresses with speed. 65,000 TPS, nearly zero fees (less than a cent), and uses Proof-of-History + PoS. It had some outages in the past and risks of centralization, but the network is much more stable now. Growth in RWA (Real-World Assets) is attracting institutional interest. SOL is trading at $85.87 with a market cap of $49.6 billion.

Cardano is interesting because it was founded by Charles Hoskinson, co-creator of Ethereum. Development is based on academic research, peer-reviewed. It consumes 99% less energy than Bitcoin and has a very clear roadmap. Development is slower than competitors, and the ecosystem is smaller, but the Layer-2 solution Hydra and partnerships with African governments show real progress. ADA is at $0.25 with a market cap of $9.2 billion.

Dogecoin is that classic story — started as a joke in 2013 but became a phenomenon. No supply limit (5 billion new coins per year), massive community, support from Elon Musk. Volatility is extreme, and development is minimal, but it’s now being integrated into payment systems of X and Tesla, adding real utility. DOGE is at $0.10 with a market cap of $16 billion.

Pepe is another meme coin, but this time based on Ethereum and launched in 2023. Fair launch, no pre-sale. It has high liquidity and token burns (deflationary), but zero real utility beyond the community. Volatility is wild. It’s at $0.00 with a market cap of $1.5 billion.

Meme is a meme culture token linked to NFTs, with a very limited supply (28,000 tokens). Extreme scarcity is its main advantage, but liquidity is low and volatility high. The MEME v2 update with NFT creation tools is boosting interest. Price is at $0.00 with a market cap of $32 million.

Sui is a Layer-1 built by the former Meta team (Diem project). Uses Move language and can reach over 120,000 TPS. Cutting-edge technology, elite team, but stability has not yet been fully proven. Competition is intense. Partnerships with major exchanges are driving the ecosystem in gaming and DeFi. SUI is trading at $1.07 with a market cap of $4.2 billion.

What I’m observing is that 2025 is being shaped by three main trends: institutional adoption (especially in Bitcoin), scalability (Layer-2s and fast blockchains), and meme tokens maintaining relevance through community. If you want to start, focus on fundamentals, study the trends, and follow the news. Each of these coins has its use case, and the decision to hold or actively trade depends on your risk profile.
