Why are Korean movies and TV dramas always so good? A Korean director once said, "In this society where if you're useless, you'll be eliminated, TV dramas should exist for those who are most helpless, most lonely, who have no time to go out, and no money to see the world. They should exist for these ordinary people. I believe that is the value of TV dramas. For this, we will continue to work hard."

Perhaps, the answer lies in this paragraph. Because many excellent Korean films and TV shows never prioritize "entertainment" alone, but always place "ordinary people" at the center of the lens. What they truly care about are not the lofty successful figures, but those who are suffocated by reality: the unemployed, low-income families, exhausted office workers, lonely elderly people, young people trapped by life. They do not shy away from poverty, class, loneliness, and failure, but seriously depict these emotions, allowing viewers to see their own lives in the stories.
So many people watching Korean dramas and movies often feel a strong sense: so there are still people in this world who understand my exhaustion and helplessness. Truly great film and TV works are never just about providing brief happiness, but about giving ordinary people a little strength of understanding and companionship during the most difficult times. Perhaps this is the most impressive aspect of Korean film and television.
