The cross-chain bridge between Verus and Ethereum was attacked, resulting in losses of over $11 million, becoming the eighth cross-chain bridge security incident since 2026, with total related losses approaching $329 million for the year. Blockchain security company Blockaid stated that this vulnerability is similar to the 2022 Wormhole and Nomad cross-chain bridge attacks, with the issue being that the bridge verification process did not properly check whether the transaction parameters from the source chain and the payment data on the Ethereum side were consistent, and fixing the vulnerability only required about 10 lines of code. After the attack, some block-producing nodes on the Verus network actively went offline, and on-chain block production was temporarily paused. (Protos)
