Texas man sentenced to 23 years in prison for Meta-1 Coin fraud
ME News message: On April 17 (UTC+8), a man from Texas, United States, Robert Dunlap was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for carrying out a scam by issuing the so-called “Meta-1 Coin” crypto token purportedly backed by artworks from Picasso, Van Gogh, and Dali, as well as gold assets. He was also ordered to compensate nearly 1,000 victims for their losses. Prosecutors said he fabricated a background of about $44 billion worth of gold and about $1 billion worth of artwork assets, and forged audit information; the total amount involved exceeded $20 million.
