What does it mean to have a strong sense of agency? There are two points: you can choose not to take anyone seriously, and you can accept that no one takes you seriously. Many people only achieve the first point; they say they don't care about others, but in essence, they still live in external feedback: when others praise them, they reinforce themselves; when others criticize them, they start to doubt and adjust themselves. Over time, you become an algorithm that constantly caters to the environment, but you lose your true self. Truly autonomous individuals establish an independent internal reference frame. External evaluations are not commands to them, but just information; if someone likes you, it's a gain; if someone doesn't, it's just a piece of observational data, not worth overturning your core logic because of it. You can maintain kindness toward the world, but the steering wheel must always be in your own hands.
