In 2026, if you want to trade U.S. stocks from Vietnam, there are several methods you need to know. I will share what I have learned.
First is CFD trading with leverage. This method is the most popular in Vietnam because why? Because of low capital (just a few dozen USD), the ability to profit whether prices go up or down, and no long wait like traditional investing. But remember, leverage is like a double-edged sword — it amplifies profits but also amplifies losses. So avoid using too high leverage, especially when just starting out.
Second is buying IPO stocks. Newly listed stocks often have rapid growth potential, but the risk is also high because there is no historical data yet. You need to learn fundamental analysis, consider industry conditions, and the company's cash flow.
Third is investing in indices like S&P 500, Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100. This method is safer because you don't have to pick individual stocks. Indices tend to trend upward over time, making it suitable for long-term goals.
Fourth is ETFs. They are similar to indices but managed by professionals. Buying an ETF code means buying a basket of stocks, reducing risk compared to buying individual stocks.
Fifth is futures contracts. Similar to CFDs but with differences in calculation. Also with leverage, high risk, suitable for active traders.
Regarding trading platforms, NYSE is the largest, NASDAQ focuses on technology, AMEX specializes in ETFs. Trading hours are from 20:30 the previous night to 3:00 AM the next morning Vietnam time (corresponding to 9:30-16:00 U.S. time).
The most common way to trade U.S. stocks in Vietnam today is CFD because it’s easy to access, requires low capital, and the U.S. market is large with less administrative interference like in Vietnam stocks. But remember, investing always involves risks, so you need a clear plan and risk management skills.
Big companies like Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Tesla are all traded on these platforms. If you want to start, research the market thoroughly, choose a reputable platform, and never invest money you cannot afford to lose.
