Gulf country and European officials believe it will take the United States six months to reach an Iran agreement
ME News Report, April 17 (UTC+8), officials familiar with the situation in the region stated that some Gulf countries and European leaders believe it may take about six months for the US and Iran to reach a peace agreement, and they advocate extending the current ceasefire to cover this period. These officials said that leaders of various countries hope to immediately open the Strait of Hormuz to restore energy flows and privately warn that if the strait is not reopened before next month, a global food crisis could occur. They also stated that if the war lasts longer, energy prices could further increase. The officials said that Gulf countries believe Iran still seeks to develop nuclear weapons, and this has not changed after the US and Israel took action against Iran. Therefore, they believe any peace agreement should prohibit Iran from uranium enrichment or possessing long-range ballistic missiles.
