Q1 13F Disclosure: Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund Significantly Increases Holdings in IBIT, University Endowment Fund's Crypto Holdings Remain Overall Stable

Deep Tide TechFlow News, May 17, according to The Block, several sovereign wealth funds, university endowment funds, and traditional banks disclosed 13F holdings in the first quarter of 2026:

Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund Mubadala increased its holdings of BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) from 12.7 million shares to 14.72 million shares, adding over $90 million, with a total holding value of approximately $566 million (a 16% increase from the previous quarter). Its subsidiary Abu Dhabi Investment Council (ADIC) maintained 8.21 million shares of IBIT, valued at about $316 million.

Several university endowment funds’ crypto ETF holdings remained relatively stable:

Harvard University Endowment Fund held 3.04 million shares of IBIT (worth about $117 million), down 43% from 5.35 million shares at the end of 2025 (after a 21% reduction in Q4), and IBIT is no longer its largest holding; at the same time, it completely liquidated the $86.8 million worth of BlackRock spot Ethereum ETF established in the previous quarter.

Dartmouth College held 201.5k shares of IBIT (worth about $7.7 million), unchanged from the previous quarter; its Ethereum ETF shifted from Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust to Grayscale Ethereum Staking ETF (holding 178.1k shares unchanged); added 304.8k shares of Bitwise Solana Staking ETF (worth nearly $3.67 million), becoming the first university endowment fund publicly showing interest in cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Brown University maintained 212.5k shares of IBIT; Emory University simplified its Bitcoin fund allocation, liquidating 4,450 shares of IBIT, and increased its holdings of Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust to 1.35 million shares.

Traditional financial institutions actively rebalanced: Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) increased its holdings of IBIT spot and hedged with put/call options; Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD) liquidated its Trump-related Bitcoin stocks and increased its IBIT holdings by 214k shares; Barclays Bank held about 4.46 million shares of IBIT spot and allocated a large number of options; Laurore in Hong Kong reduced IBIT from 8.78 million shares to 6.85 million shares.
