Italy’s largest banking group, Intesa Sanpaolo (San Paolo Bank), significantly increased its exposure to the cryptocurrency sector in the first quarter of 2026. Its crypto-related assets surged from approximately $100 million in Q4 2025 to around $235 million currently. According to data as of March 31, the bank increased its Bitcoin holdings and made its first purchase of Ethereum by buying iShares Staked Ethereum Trust. In addition, the bank established a new position in Ripple through Grayscale XRP Trust, holding 712319 shares (worth about $18 million), while substantially cutting its exposure to Solana (Bitwise Solana Staking ETF).
