ME News Report, April 16 (UTC+8), Lebanese President Joseph Aoun refused to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had stated that the two leaders would hold a historic meeting. A Lebanese official said, “We told the U.S. that we are not yet ready to take that step.” Lebanese officials have informed Israel and the U.S. that they will not seek further negotiations until Israel and Hezbollah reach a ceasefire. Israel’s Security Cabinet met on Wednesday to discuss a possible ceasefire agreement. Earlier Thursday, Israeli officials stated that Netanyahu and Aoun were scheduled to have a call—prior to this, Israel and Lebanon held their first direct dialogue in Washington, D.C., in over forty years this week. Trump also posted on social media that Israeli and Lebanese leaders would have a call, but did not disclose any details such as the location or method of the call. Israeli officials stated that they are not currently seeking to end the war with Hezbollah. (Jinshi) (Source: ODAILY)
