A user from platform X claims that Claude AI helped them "recover" a Bitcoin wallet lost for nearly nine years.
AIMPACT News, May 14 (UTC+8), platform user Cprkrn posted that Anthropic’s Claude AI helped recover a Bitcoin wallet lost for nearly nine years, containing 5 BTC worth approximately $400k. The post received over 6 million views, sparking discussions about AI’s role in cryptocurrency wallet recovery. On-chain data shows that the wallet has not been used since 2015, but recently it was transferred. The user stated that previous attempts with tools like btcrecover and Hashcat were unsuccessful, and ultimately uploaded files from an old computer to Claude, which helped identify files related to the mnemonic phrase. Wallet recovery experts said that the screenshot shows AI-assisted file analysis, not that Claude “cracked” Bitcoin encryption; Claude’s role may have been to sift through large amounts of historical data and identify clues related to the old wallet credentials.
