I'm always fascinated by the question: how much does Elon Musk really earn per minute? When you calculate the numbers for 2024, it becomes almost absurd.
Back then, Musk had a fortune of about 429 billion dollars. When broken down into different time units, the numbers become hard to imagine. Per minute, we're talking about around 222,500 dollars – for most people, that's half a year's salary earned in 60 seconds. Per second, it's about 3,700 dollars, which shows how absurd the wealth gap in our world is.
But it gets even more extreme: his wealth grows by about 320 million dollars every day. That's more than the entire annual budget of some countries. In one week, it adds up to over 2 billion dollars – more than many Fortune 500 companies earn in an entire year.
Hourly, it's about 13 million dollars. At this pace, he could buy a private jet every hour and still have money left over. The question of how much Elon Musk earns per minute becomes even more interesting when you consider that most people are sleeping during the same period.
The whole thing mainly comes from two sources: Tesla stock and his future projects. Tesla's performance is the main driver – every increase in the stock price by a few percent already means billion-dollar gains for him. Plus, expectations around SpaceX and xAI further inflate his wealth.
What I find most thought-provoking: these numbers not only show personal wealth but also how concentrated wealth is in a few hands. While Musk earns more per minute than the average person does in a lifetime, millions are fighting poverty. It's interesting to observe how such extreme wealth disparities shape society.
