You know, altseason is when the market suddenly switches from Bitcoin to altcoins and they start rising like crazy. Usually this happens after BTC has already “played its move,” and investors begin looking for the next source of profit. That kind of period is called altseason—when money flows into alternative cryptocurrencies.
In spring 2025, many were expecting exactly that scenario. I remember everyone was counting on several factors at once. First, traditionally, after the winter hibernation, the crypto market comes back to life when institutional investors return and start new cycles. Second, Bitcoin’s halving in 2024 was supposed to trigger delayed growth—historically, about six months to a year after the halving, a bull market begins, and it usually affects the whole sector.
Add the macro picture: expectations of easing monetary policy, and a possible rate cut by the ФРС. Plus, the arrival of a new administration that positioned itself as crypto-friendly. On paper, everything looked convincing.
But here’s the thing—many people were holding “dead” tokens that showed no activity. Some kind of movement was needed just to break even. Market psychology is such that expectations sometimes truly create reality. If people believe in altseason and start buying, prices can go up.
Practice showed that altseason didn’t arrive evenly for everyone. The projects that continued active development and showed real products really did grow. The rest stayed put. If I had been giving advice back then, I would’ve said: forget about dead coins—focus on liquid alts with serious market caps. ETH, XRP, ADA, MATIC—those were what you should be watching. Layer 2 tokens like Polygon, Optimism, and Arbitrum showed potential. Projects in AI and infrastructure were also in focus.
In the end, my conclusion was simple: invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum as the core of your portfolio. Even if an altseason starts, they still remain more reliable assets over the long run. Altcoins are for those who are ready for volatility and have the time to analyze specific projects. Don’t expect miracles from tokens that have already lost activity. The market rewards those who choose wisely.
