I just re-read Taleb's theory of the black swan, and I find it super relevant for understanding what's happening in the crypto markets. Basically, the meaning of a black swan is that completely unpredictable and extreme event that no one sees coming, but when it happens, it changes the whole game.
What’s interesting is that Taleb explains very well why our traditional statistical models are not useful for predicting these things. All analyses are based on historical data, but a black swan by definition has never happened before, so technically it’s impossible to anticipate. It’s like saying "because Bitcoin has risen this way in the past, it will rise again the same," but reality is much more chaotic than that.
The name itself is great. In ancient times, Europeans believed that all swans were white; it was an absolute truth. Until they found a black one in Australia, and boom, the whole theory collapsed. That’s why the black swan became the perfect symbol for those events that break all your expectations.
In the real world, especially in crypto, most changes are not linear. One day everything is "under control," and the next day you have an ETH or BTC crash that no one predicted. People always believe they can understand and control the situation, but when real uncertainty appears, we realize we are improvising on the fly.
That’s why it’s important to recognize that these unknowns exist. It’s not pessimism; it’s realism. Those who understand the meaning of a black swan in crypto markets tend to be better prepared when the surprise arrives.
