Just looked at the latest global gold reserve rankings and it's pretty interesting how concentrated these reserves are. The US absolutely dominates with over 8,000 tonnes, which is almost 2.5x more than Germany in second place. What caught my eye is how the top countries with most gold reserves are mostly developed Western nations, though China and Russia also have significant stockpiles. Germany, Italy, and France are all clustered pretty close together in the 2,400-3,300 tonne range. If you're curious about where countries with most gold reserves stand, India and Japan round out the top 10 with around 800+ tonnes each. Pretty wild how much of the world's gold wealth is concentrated in just a handful of nations. The gap between the US and everyone else is just massive though. Makes you wonder about the geopolitical implications when so much precious metal is held by specific countries.
