Just looked at Pakistan's currency story and it's actually wild 👇 Back in 1947 when the country was born, 1 USD was just 3.31 PKR. That rate stayed locked for years - literally didn't move from 1947 to 1954. Then things started shifting in the mid-50s. By 1972 it jumped to 11 PKR, and from there the rupee kept losing ground. The real acceleration happened in the 2000s. In 2000 it was around 51-52 PKR, but by 2008 it hit 81, and then just kept sliding. 2018-2019 saw major depreciation - went from 139 to 163 in just one year. Last couple years were rough too. 2023 hit 286 PKR per dollar, and now we're looking at 277 range in 2024. Over 75 years, the rupee went from being worth 30+ cents to less than half a cent. That's the dollar to PKR story - basically shows what happens when you have decades of inflation and currency pressure. Pretty sobering when you see it all mapped out like this.
