I noticed an interesting article about Vitalik Buterin's financial situation. After the price of Ethereum sharply increased, many started guessing how wealthy the platform's founder is and how he managed to become one of the youngest billionaires in the cryptocurrency world.
According to blockchain data, Buterin's portfolio is estimated at approximately $1.03 billion. The main part, of course, is ETH itself — about 240,000 coins worth roughly $1.01 billion. Additionally, there are AETHWETH (~12.2 million), WHITE (~2.86 million), MOODENG (~927 thousand), KNC (~386 thousand), and many other tokens in smaller amounts.
Interestingly, Vitalik Dmitrievich Buterin was born on January 31, 1994, in Kolomna, then his family moved to Canada, where he obtained Canadian citizenship. He studied computer science at the University of Waterloo but dropped out in 2014 to focus entirely on Ethereum.
He became interested in cryptocurrency back in 2011 when his father told him about Bitcoin. He participated in creating Bitcoin Magazine and wrote technical articles about blockchain. Later, at the end of 2013, he proposed the idea of Ethereum as a platform for smart contracts, and on July 30, 2015, he officially launched the network after an ICO, raising $18 million.
Vitalik Buterin's current wealth is the result of making Ethereum the second-largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin. Thanks to his work, the entire DeFi, NFT, and decentralized applications revolution was launched. For his achievements, he received the Thiel Fellowship in 2014 ($100,000) and was listed in Forbes 30 Under 30 and Fortune 40 Under 40.
Despite all this money, the guy is known for his modesty — simple clothing, no showiness. He is more focused on social and technological impact than on accumulating capital. He believes in decentralization and free access to finance.
Notably, he has donated millions to medical research, refugee support, and environmental protection. I remember when he transferred about a billion dollars in Shiba Inu to a fund fighting COVID-19 in India.
In 2015, when Ethereum was launched, one coin was worth only $0.31. Now, ETH is trading around $2.28k, with a 2.43% drop over 24 hours. This growth made Buterin one of the youngest billionaires in tech.
He continues to lead Ethereum development, working on Ethereum 2.0 to increase transaction speed, improve security, and reduce energy consumption. Vitalik Buterin's wealth remains one of the most discussed topics in the crypto community, but he himself remains focused on technology rather than wealth.
This is not investment advice, just interesting facts about one of the key figures in the cryptocurrency industry.
