I just realized something quite interesting. When Bitcoin is approaching its all-time high around $80.39K, everyone starts talking about altcoin season. But what exactly is altcoin season and why is it so important?

Altcoin season is the period when cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin experience explosive growth, with increases ranging from a few dozen percent to hundreds or thousands of times depending on the market FOMO. This is the golden time when retail investors have the opportunity to harvest huge profits.

Usually, after Bitcoin rises continuously and hits a new ATH, it will enter a significant correction phase. At that point, capital flows from Bitcoin to altcoins, and that’s when altcoin season begins. I believe recognizing this timing correctly can completely change investors’ positions.

So how to determine if altcoin season is coming? I see a few main signs. First is decreasing Bitcoin Dominance. This index measures Bitcoin’s market capitalization relative to the total crypto market. When BTC Dominance is high, the market is attracted to Bitcoin, and vice versa. If it drops, it may indicate that capital is shifting to altcoins.

Second, the total market capitalization must increase simultaneously. If only Bitcoin Dominance decreases but the overall market cap doesn’t grow, that’s just a false signal. It’s necessary to monitor Total 2 and Total 3 indices for a clearer picture. Total 2 is the total market cap minus Bitcoin, and Total 3 excludes both Bitcoin and Ethereum. These indicators really help me assess altcoin growth.

I also pay attention to the Altcoin Season Index. If more than 75% of the top 50 coins show strong upward signs, altcoin season might be starting. However, this is just a reference indicator, not a definitive decision.

According to experts, when Bitcoin accelerates like now, it can spark renewed interest in altcoins, especially projects with innovative technology. Fields like DeFi, Layer 2 solutions, and blockchain gaming are seen as areas with potential to benefit from this altcoin season.

Two main factors influencing the market are the increasing institutional interest in Bitcoin and the changing regulatory environment. When institutional investors participate, they can help stabilize Bitcoin’s price, and combined with favorable legal developments, this creates a positive environment for altcoin season to develop.

But I also need to emphasize that before participating in altcoin season, thorough market analysis is essential, and don’t follow the crowd blindly. Although profits can be attractive, risks are also significant because the crypto market remains highly volatile. Set clear investment goals, research each coin carefully, and only invest in altcoins with sustainable growth potential.

Overall, altcoin season can bring great profit opportunities but also risks causing many to buy at the peak. So, be mentally prepared, equip yourself with full knowledge, and get ready for the next altcoin wave. Hopefully, the upcoming altcoin season will last longer and provide opportunities for all investors.
