Florida and Massachusetts recover $5.4 million in crypto scam funds

ME News Report, April 16 (UTC+8), Florida and Massachusetts jointly recovered approximately $5.4 million in cryptocurrency assets in a case stemming from a “romance scam” that led to a crypto investment fraud. Victims in Florida have recovered about $700k, while Massachusetts victims received $1.3 million, with the remaining funds to be used to combat crypto scams. It is reported that Florida victims are spread across six counties, with one victim in Marion County losing over $450k. Florida’s cyber fraud enforcement agency revealed that by the first quarter of 2026, they had recovered $3.3 million, with a total of $7.2 million recovered since its establishment, but $12.6 million in crypto assets remain frozen and are under legal proceedings.
