#RoaringKittyAccountHacked
Roaring Kitty's X account returned after a 16-month silence with a post promoting a Pump.fun token. The abrupt activity prompted immediate speculation about a compromise.
Traders flagged the post as unusual, citing the extended inactivity and lack of context. Market participants quickly labeled the event a potential hack.
The post exposed the contract address for Red Kitten Crew (RKC), a Solana meme coin. RKC market capitalization surged toward $12 million within minutes of the exposure.
Momentum reversed rapidly as the hacker deleted the tweets containing contract details. RKC valuation retreated to approximately $1.8 million following the deletion.
The incident occurred on May 12, with control subsequently restored to the original owner. The episode mirrors a separate hijacking where Microsoft India's verified X account impersonated Roaring Kitty.
That earlier impersonation leveraged a gold-check verified profile with over 211,000 followers to promote fake GameStop crypto airdrops. The campaign directed users toward phishing links and pre-sale sites.
Both events highlight elevated risks around high-profile social accounts in crypto markets. Verification badges and follower counts continue to amplify the reach of impersonation attempts.
