Just caught wind that ETHShanghai is making its comeback this October, and honestly, the vibe around this year's edition feels different. The fourth conference is landing October 18-22 in Shanghai with the theme 'Scaling Ethereum, Shaping the Open Future,' and it's positioned as a key piece of how the Ethereum Foundation is actually executing their new ecosystem strategy.

What's interesting is how this isn't just another conference. The whole thing is structured around three connected phases. They're running a three-month 'Youth Hacker Expedition Program' starting in July to support Asian developers - over 6,000 USDT budget to get at least 30 people involved. Then you've got the main hackathon running the first four days of the week in Shanghai with a 20,000 USD prize pool, followed by a summit on October 22 expecting 800+ people and 20+ speakers.

The Ethereum Foundation basically laid out their new EcoDev blueprint earlier this year, and ETHShanghai is directly implementing it. Four pillars: ecosystem acceleration (developer support), amplification (getting the narrative out there), support (grants and public goods), and long-term development (policy and academic stuff). This conference hits all of those.

I'm seeing they're targeting developers and builders across Asia-Pacific, which makes sense given where a lot of innovation is happening. Past speakers have included Vitalik Buterin and other major figures. The hackathon side is competitive - they're expecting 500+ applicants to narrow down to about 30-40 projects competing live. Winners get to showcase at the main summit.

The exhibition at the summit is focusing on three things: developer growth, ecosystem amplification, and long-term security and resilience. Pretty aligned with where Ethereum actually stands right now. This year marks Ethereum's tenth mainnet anniversary, and the market momentum is real - institutions are moving in, spot ETFs are on the table, and the technical roadmap keeps progressing.

Organizers are actively recruiting sponsors, speakers, and hackathon judges. If you're involved in the ecosystem or have something to showcase, this looks like the week to be in Shanghai. The whole thing feels like it's trying to be a real builder event rather than just another conference circuit stop.

If you want to get involved or follow along, they've got the usual channels - X, Luma, and their official site. Definitely worth keeping on the radar if you're tracking where Ethereum's ecosystem is heading.
