Ethereum Foundation announces Glamsterdam upgrade progress: the testnet is live, and the Hegotá expansion roadmap is progressing simultaneously
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the Ethereum Foundation has disclosed the recent outcomes of the core developers at the interoperability conference held in Svalbard, Norway, and provided an update on the key technological progress of the next phase upgrade “Glamsterdam.” During the conference, multiple client teams collaborated on network scaling and execution layer optimization, making progress in several directions. Developers confirmed that, based on the comprehensive results of ePBS, BAL optimization, and the EIP-8037 re-pricing mechanism, an agreement has been reached on the “trusted path” after Glamsterdam.
In terms of the execution layer, ePBS (External Proposer Separation Architecture) has been stably running in the multi-client Glamsterdam-devnet, with the external block builder process completing end-to-end testing, covering almost all client implementations. Meanwhile, EIP-8037 has finalized the draft, establishing the fixed cost_per_state_byte model, and completed full re-pricing parameter output in bal-devnet-6.
The expansion direction “Hegotá” has also made progress. The FOCIL prototype is now operational, the scope of account abstraction (AA) requirements has been defined, and the next phase will enter the multi-client development network verification stage. Current development efforts remain focused on the final implementation of Glamsterdam, while also advancing the Hegotá expansion design and subsequent Strawmap roadmap evolution. The development network is live, and features like FOCIL are expected to be further refined in the next testing phase.
At the organizational level, this interoperability conference also marks the official initiation of leadership restructuring within the Protocol Cluster. The new leaders include Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and Fredrik. Will Corcoran is responsible for zkVM proof and post-quantum consensus coordination, Kev Wedderburn leads zkEVM development, and Fredrik oversees protocol security and the Trillion Dollar Security project. Former Protocol Cluster leaders Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko will gradually step down from management roles, while Alex Stokes is entering a leave cycle. The foundation stated that during its tenure, the Protocol has completed modular development, pushed the Fusaka upgrade online (December 2025), introduced PeerDAS, and enhanced mainnet gas capacity.
