Progress in Shibarium Bridge Recovery, Moving Toward Compensation Plans

Interesting news has emerged that the Shibarium team is actively working to restore the cross-chain bridge issues experienced earlier this year. Developers are preparing to restart the Ethereum bridge and are also developing compensation plans for affected users.

To summarize the situation, Shibarium experienced an emergency system shutdown in early September due to a vulnerability. During this process, approximately $4.1 million worth of assets were stolen. ETH, SHIB, and 15 other tokens were drained from the bridge.

Fortunately, the recovery process is making significant progress. According to the development team’s analysis, all validator keys have been replaced, and over 100 ecosystem contracts have been transferred to secure wallets. Additionally, just a few days after the attack, 4.6 million BONE tokens were recovered from the attacker’s contract.

An interesting aspect is that Shibarium developer Kaal Dhairya publicly expressed willingness to negotiate with the attacker. He proposed returning the stolen funds in exchange for a reward of about 50 ETH, worth approximately $225,000 at the time. This kind of negotiation attempt shows how seriously Shibarium is taking the situation.

As Shibarium is currently working on both bridge reactivation and victim compensation plans simultaneously, it will be interesting to see how this project regains trust.
